‘I tested Amazon’s ‘indestructible’ £9.99 dog toy and it’s the only one my dog hasn't torn apart'

I don't know if it's sheer pig-headed stubbornness or his suspected dachshund ancestry, but Toffee destroys everything. He takes great pride in ripping toys apart until their innards fly around like tragic snow, and he can chew a hole through plastic like it's just another treat.

I've been trying to find an indestructible toy for years. He can't chew through rubber balls, but he much prefers playing with a crinkly plushie - sadly, those last for roughly ten minutes.

He's previously owned several of TK Maxx's toys, specifically the ones with reinforced, super-durable seams. None lasted more than half a day as he gleefully tore them to shreds and disembowelled them.

So imagine my distrust of Amazon's 'indestructible' octopus toy. Verla, the brand responsible for the plushie, were so confident in their product that they offer a free replacement if it lasts less than a month.

Thinking I was about to bankrupt the poor sods, I spent the £9.99 and watched Toffee's face light up as he spotted his newest victim. But his eagerness soon turned to confusion.

Toffee has a graveyard of murdered plushies

Why was the plushie not ripping? Why on earth was he unable to tear chunks off the rope tentacles and why oh why could he hear a squeaker but not get to it?

His confusion eventually turned to frustration and he began headbutting the toy along the floor. Finally, he resorted to laying down, placing it gingerly in his mouth, and chewing on the same spot with impressive determination.

He wasted no time in going to town on his new toy

Even a tug-o-war with me as his opponent yielded no results, despite him yanking and shaking and growling more than he's ever yanked, shook, or growled before. It seemed the toy's robustness eventually won the dog over, as he began using the crinkly thing for a pillow, alternating between sleeping on it and biting it.

So far, the indestructible octopus has lived for four days with no more damage than one torn-off decorative flap. It's lasted longer than any other plushie he's owned, and there has so far been no significant structural damage to the octopus' body, its crinkly innards safe from Toffee the Terror.

You can buy the indestructible octopus toy from Amazon for £9.99.
