Live Moorgate fire updates as thick dark smoke seen for miles and London Underground station shut

A fire has broken out in the City of London this morning (Thursday, August 17). Thick black smoke can be seen for miles around Moorgate and the Barbican, with office workers across the city sharing snaps of the smoke billowing above the skyscrapers.

Moorgate Station has also shut due to the fire. The London Underground station is on the Northern line.

One post on Twitter reports: "Smoke reported near Charterhouse Square near Moorgate area of London, UK."

Another post shows a picture of heavy, dark smoke between several high rise blocks of flats and offices in the area.

It is not yet known exactly where the fire has broken out, or how serious it is at present.

Emergency services, including the London Fire Brigade, have been contacted for further information.
