New interactive map shows the last Wilkos standing in London - find your nearest store

One of the biggest names on Britain’s high streets is set to disappear in the next month as Wilko confirmed the closure of nearly 400 stores.

Already, 176 stores shut across the UK between September 12 and September 21. The company has said that closure details for the remaining 222 stores will be announced later but unions expect all of the outlets to be shut by next month.

Administrators have said that 9,100 employees will be made redundant before early October.

Joint administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) said the "inability to reduce central infrastructure costs" meant a deal to rescue the stores could not be reached.

The company's two warehouses will also close and most of the activities at its support centre will cease too.

Wilko has stores in nearly every part of the country with the most stores in the East Midlands (53), followed by the South East (49) and North West (46). There are 29 stores in Wales and 8 in Scotland.

The local authority areas with the most Wilko stores are Leeds and County Durham, both areas having six outlets. There are five Wilko stores in Nottingham, Sheffield and Bristol.

LONDON, SEPTEMBER 12: A shopper walks past a Wilko store in Putney on September 12, 2023 in London. More than 1,000 staff will be made redundant this week after the administrators admitted they had failed to find a buyer willing to keep the stores open. The complete staff of 12,500 will lose their jobs when all 400 shops close later this month. (Photo by Peter Nicholls/Getty Images)
