Croydon house fire: Police try to identify men killed

Police investigating a fatal house fire in south London are trying to identify the victims and trace their families.

Three men died and another is in a life-threatening condition following the fire in Sanderstead Road, south Croydon, which broke out just before 23:00 GMT on Friday. A fifth man was treated and discharged from hospital.

All five men are believed to be Polish nationals, Met officers said.

The fire's cause is under investigation by fire officers and police.

Two men, one in his 40s, died at the scene. Another, in his 30s, died in hospital on Saturday afternoon.

The man being treated in hospital is also in his 30s.

Ch Insp Imran Asghar from the Met said it was an "extremely sad" incident and the force had "made significant progress" towards confirming their identities.
