London's annual No Trousers Tube Ride is returning this weekend and what better way to celebrate than to have a look back at how it's evolved over the years. The 2024 ride is on Sunday, January 7, with the event having started in 2009.
It took inspiration from the Subway version that began in New York in 2002. There was a two-year break due to the pandemic in 2021 and 2022 but it returned in January 2023.
Riders simply meet and then take a journey together on the Underground without their trousers. The event is free and "just for the sake of fun" according to organisers.
Participants take part at their own risk. They are also asked to stick to 'normal' and 'low-key' underwear choices, to make the event seem like a coincidence.
Over the years people have come in pants of all shapes and sizes and boarded the Tube with pride. The aim is to act normal, so participants have been seen reading books, listening to music and just sitting on those dirty Underground seats with bare legs.
Due to the time of year many people dress warm on the top half, donning nothing on the legs but a nice warm coat on top. Breezy. Have a look at our selection of photos below showing previous No Trousers Tube Rides from 2014 onwards.
