Why you might see loads of emergency services on the River Thames near Wapping today

Police officer training is taking place on the Thames today, hence the large emergency services presence. There is no actual crime, it is a training exercise for officers.

The training started at around 10am and is set to last until the afternoon. The activity is taking place near Wapping Pier, off the High Street.

The Marine Policing Unit, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service will all be present by the river. This is likely to cause some disruption as vehicles of the emergency workers will be parked nearby.

"Emergency services will be in and around the area for several hours. The exercise will take place on the Thames near Wapping Pier, off the High St.

"The nearby area of land off Wapping High St also being used for vehicle parking. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The marine policing unit of the met police deal with any waterborne issues. They are responsible for policing the 47 miles of the River Thames within the MPS area (Dartford to Hampton Court) as well as providing specialist response to over 250 miles of canals and waterways, lakes and reservoirs and other bodies of water in London.
