Amazon's best selling air fryer and grill cheaper to run than Ninja and costs £110 less

Amazon's best selling air fryer, the Tefal Easy Fry XXL Air Fryer and Grill, is currently 50 per cent off in a sale. The air fryer has a 6.5 capacity and is selling for £89.99, down from £179.99.

This is way cheaper than buying it from Tefal, who are charging £179.99. The air fryer costs less than an oven to run, coming in at 1830 watts. This is significantly less than conventional ovens (2000 to 2200) as the air fryer will take less time to heat up, meaning a shorter cooking time.

It also has a lower wattage than the closest Ninja, the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer (7.6 litre), which is 2400 watts. The Tefal one will cost 53p per hour to run, compared to Ninja's 70p per hour to run.

If you used it for two hours every day, the Ninja would cost £42 a month and £504 a year. Meanwhile, the Tefal one would cost £31.80 a month and £381.60 a year. All energy bill calculations are worked out using the sust-it energy calculator, which uses the price cap to determine prices.

The air fryer has a divider so you can cook one big dish or two separate ones at once

The Tefal air fryer has two 3.25 drawers, with a divider that can be removed to make one big drawer. As well as air fryer functionality, it also has a grill, meaning you can cook things like steaks inside.

If you need inspiration on what to cook, the Complete Air Fryer Cookbook: 140 super-easy, everyday recipes and techniques, which was released last year, is just £10. The cookbook was named as one of the "Best air fryer cookbooks" by BBC Good Food. Written by husband and wife team Sam and Dom Milner, they are air fryer "experts" and have been using it for 12 years now.

The Tefal air fryer has a strong 4.5 out of 1,708 ratings. One happy shopper wrote: "This is excellent - can't believe we didn't get one before. Easy to use / clean and great results - much better than using our oven. Highly recommend!" Another added: "A vast improvement on my old single basket fryer. The heat is fiercer than my old fryer, so I need to cook at a lower temperature or for a shorter time. Very useful that you can synchronise the times of the two baskets, so that food is ready at the same time."

A third remarked: "I absolutely love my Tefal dual air fryer. What an amazing piece of kit. Super easy to use. Cooks amazing food and loads quicker than the oven. Hardly use my cooker now." However, a less happy customer wrote: "Went for Tefal thinking it would be better than cheaper brands.. but I’m not so sure. Not cooking food as well as my last air fryer, plus I can’t stand the tone when you press buttons."

A second added: "My first time as an air fryer user so needed clear and simple instructions. The single sheet of tiny print was not legible and the advised Tefal website was no better. For example- how to cook a kilo of chips or 2 kilos of chicken nuggets. Had to resort to buying a separate cook book to get started."

You can pick up the Tefal air fryer from Amazon for £89.99. You can also get the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer for £199.99.
