Boy hit by lorry was walking to gurdwara

An eight-year-old boy who died after being hit by a lorry in west London was walking to his gurdwara, it has emerged.

It happened in King Street, Southall, at about 18:20 GMT on Friday and the boy later died in hospital.

In a post on Instagram, Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall said the community was "deeply saddened".

"This heartbreaking incident has left us all in a state of shock and grief," it added..

The boy was struck metres from the gurdwara in Guru Nunak Road, with several members of the community and children witnessing the event "understandably traumatised".

A counselling service was being offered to those affected.

The gurdwara's post continued: "We extend our heartfelt prayers, hoping that Guru Sahib will embrace the child and grant strength and solace to the bereaved family during this incredibly difficult period.

"Our thoughts are with the family and everyone impacted by this tragedy as we come together in solidarity and compassion."

The Metropolitan Police said the driver stopped at the scene and there had been no arrests.

Detectives were continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
