Man dies after fire in West London bin store

A man died in a fire after a bin store caught alight in West London last Sunday (February 9). Firefighters rushed to the scene in Maida Hill, West London, and found the bin store ablaze at 12.31pm.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) rews had to tackle the fire behind the back of a building on Elgin Avenue. They found the man at the scene and rushed him to hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The bin store was totally destroyed by the fire, the LFB said. The fire was brought under control by 1.30pm. The cause of the fire was 'undetermined', an LFB spokesperson said.

Firefighters from North Kensington, West Hampstead and Hammersmith fire stations attended.

An LFB spokesperson issued a statement about the man's death and the fire. They said: "Sadly, a man has died following a fire on Elgin Avenue in Maida Hill. Crews tackled a fire at a bin store at the rear of a property on Elgin Avenue in Paddington. The bin store was destroyed by the fire. Sadly, a man was taken to hospital where he later died.

"Control Officers took the first of nine calls at 1231 and mobilised three fire engines from North Kensington, West Hampstead and Hammersmith fire stations to the scene. The incident was over for firefighters at 1330. The cause of the fire has been recorded as undetermined."
