Man rushed to hospital following crash on major Sutton road

A man is in hospital following a crash on one of Sutton's busiest roads this morning (June 26). He was involved in a collision on St Nicholas Way just after 11.15am.

Paramedics arrived soon after and took him for further treatment. The nature and severity of his injuries have not yet been confirmed.

A cordon shut the A232 Cheam Road eastbound for around three hours, with the closure later extended towards Sutton College on Gibson Road and the start of Chalk Pit Road.

At least a dozen bus routes were put on diversion as a result. Traffic was reportedly heavy on the surrounding streets but eased as of 2.30pm, according to live tracker Inrix.

The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for more information.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.17am today (26 June) to reports of a road traffic collision on St Nicholas Way, Sutton. We sent an ambulance crew and a paramedic in a fast response car to the scene.

"We treated a man at the scene and took him to a local hospital."
