
A video shows the moment several cars were engulfed in flames leaving five vehicles damaged in the Poplar area of Tower Hamlets. Plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from the dramatic scene on Thursday (July 17).
Social media reports have suggested the vehicles involved were electric (EV), although this has not been confirmed by London Fire Brigade who say the cause of the fire is still "under investigation". In total two cars were destroyed in the fire and a further three vehicles were damaged by the flames.
Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters rushed to Abbott Road in Poplar at 9.04pm on Thursday to reports of a vehicle fire. Crews from Millwall, Poplar and Homerton were able to extinguish the flames by 10.02pm.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to Abbott Road in Poplar on Thursday, July 17. "Two cars were destroyed by the fire and three further vehicles were damaged. There were no injuries reported.
"The Brigade was called at 9.04pm and the fire was under control by 10.02pm. Fire crews from Millwall, Poplar and Homerton fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation."
