A man has been charged with murder after a 73-year-old woman was found dead inside a property in east London.

The Metropolitan Police said Mizanur Rahman, 45, will appear at Thames Magistrates Court on Saturday, 16 August.

Emergency services were called to an address in Russia Lane in Bethnal Green at 21:00 BST on Thursday and made an arrest on Friday.

The woman, now identified as Sufia Khatun, was found with a serious head injury and pronounced dead at the scene.

The force added that the woman's next-of-kin had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem exam will take place in due course, said the Met.
