Daniel Boakye was jailed for six years and five months in 2023 for being part of a robbery gang that held victims at knifepoint

A jailed robber who escaped police custody twice in a week has been detained in France.

Daniel Boakye was arrested in La Bouëxière in Brittany at about 20:20 local time on Monday, on suspicion of escaping lawful custody.

The Metropolitan Police said officers believed Boakye, 21, was smuggled out of the UK in a lorry after he absconded while in police custody on 15 February.

Arrangements are under way to return him to custody in the UK, the force said. Inquiries are ongoing to identify those who may have assisted Boakye to evade capture.
