A 15-year-old boy has been stabbed to death in a north London street.

The Met Police, which has launched a murder investigation, said officers were called to Westbourne Road, Islington, at about 13:00 GMT.

The boy was treated by paramedics for a stab wound but died in hospital later in the afternoon. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Ch Supt Jason Stewart said "urgent inquiries" were under way and a police cordon remained in place on Atlas Mews, Westbourne Road and Arundel Square.

Ch Supt Stewart said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly sad and difficult time.

"We understand this is incredibly concerning for the community, particularly considering the young age of the victim.

"I would urge anyone who saw the incident or has any information to please get in touch with us, or do so anonymously through Crimestoppers."
