A 40-year-old man has been fatally stabbed in a north-west London flat and a murder investigation has been launched, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Officers were called to the apartment at Tollgate House, Tollgate Gardens, Maida Vale at about 21:40 GMT on Friday.

The man was treated at the scene for stab wounds and taken to hospital, where he died. No arrests have been made, police added.

Det Ch Insp Matthew Denby said officers were working to "establish the full circumstances around this incident", and a number of police cordons were in place.

"My thoughts are with the victim's family at this unimaginably difficult time," he said. They are being supported by specialist officers.

Det Ch Insp Denby appealed for anyone with mobile or dash cam footage from the area at the time of the stabbing to get in touch with the force on 101.
