A murder investigation has been launched by the Metropolitan Police after a 55-year-old man was fatally shot in north-west London.

Officers were called to reports of a shooting on West End Close, Stonebridge, Brent at 21:35 GMT on Friday. Despite the efforts of police and the London Ambulance Service the victim died at the scene.

No arrests have been made and his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, the force added.

Det Ch Insp Neil John said: "Enquiries are well under way, and my team is working at pace to determine the circumstances that led to this man's tragic death."

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time."

"There's no doubt this incident will cause concern in the local community and more widely, but we have increased patrols in the area. I'd like to reassure the public that our investigation remains a priority."

Det Ch Insp John appealed for anyone with information to contact the force on 101 or make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers.

"We also believe there was a large group of people congregated nearby at the time the incident happened, and we are keen to hear from them," he added.
