A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a woman was found at an address in west London, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Officers were called to a welfare check on Old Brompton Road, Earls Court on Wednesday at 11:15 GMT. The body of a woman, aged 39, was at the scene.

Work is ongoing to identify the woman and inform her next of kin. No arrests have been made, the force said.

Det Ch Insp Wayne Jolley said: "My team are conducting urgent enquiries to establish the full circumstances that led to this woman's tragic death. My sympathy goes to the victim's family and friends during this painful time."

Det Ch Insp Jolley appealed for anyone with information to contact the force on 101, or make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers.

He added: "I know this news will cause concern among the local and wider community. I would like to reassure them that our investigation remains a priority."

A police cordon remains in place on Old Brompton Road and residents can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days, the force said.
