A man has died after two people were stabbed in Newham, east London, prompting a murder investigation.

Police said a 35-year-old man was found with stab wounds in the garden of a property after receiving reports of an attack in Pankhurst Avenue, Silvertown, at about 09:00 BST on Friday.

He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Another man in his 20s was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Two men, aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman were arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder and remain in custody, the Metropolitan Police said.

The 35-year-old man was found in a garden in Rayleigh Road, near to Pankhurst Avenue, according to police.

His next-of-kin have been informed.

Det Ch Insp Joanna Yorke, from the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said: "My thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the man who has died.

"I know that the community will be understandably concerned by the incident. There remains a large police presence in the area, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak with officers at the scene.

"Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and our enquiries are continuing at pace. I would ask anyone with information or CCTV footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch with police."
